Beaches



Martinique is commonly associated with heavenly beaches and for very good reasons ! You can enjoy our warm waters during the whole year. Whether you take a bath on the Atlantic ou Caribbean side, The 80°F of the water is a real pleasure. In the North, you will mostly find volcanic black sand wild beaches. Anse Couleuvre is a beautiful band of sand between the Caribbean sea and the tropical forest for example. In the southern Caribbean part of the island, you will find many small beaches with a very calm and fishy sea. This is the perfect place to go to observe fishes while snorkeling. You will obviously swim with turtles there. The southern Atlantic coast, where Villa Azura is located is the paradise of large wild white sand beaches. The coast is protect with a barrier reef which offers all the nuances of blue you can imagine in our warm waters. You must take a day to Anse Michel, a beach so beautiful, you cannot even imagine !

Hiking



If Martinique is well known for its heavenly beaches, it is also the perfect destination for walks, hiking and, for the most athletic of you trekking. Thanks to the great landscape diversity that provides Martinique and regardless of you athletic level, you will find may tracks to discover the Martinican biodiversity. There is, of course the Pelée Montain, dominating Martinique with its 1528 yard height. The most popular start is from the “Domaine de l’Aileron” in Morne-Rouge. The “chinois” , its climax, offers an incredible panoramic view over all Martinique. The northern part of Martinique also proposes nice walks ideal for families. The Couleuvre waterfall for example is ideal, even with children. It is an easy 2 hours walk with about 50 yards of elevation that will guide you to the highest waterfall of Martinique which is about 120 yard high. The south of Martinique is also perfect. You will find there many costal tracks pretty easy and always perfectly marked out. The “savane aux petrifications” is a “must-do” in Martinique, an astonishing landscape which looks more like a Mexican territory with its candle cactus !

Wildlife



Martinique is in the center of the top 36 biodiversity hotspot in the world. Each walk, each swim or simply each relaxing moment on Villa Azura’s terrace is an opportunity to enjoy this natural richness. On land, more particularly in the northern part of the island, you may see the Matoutou Falaise, an endemic tarentula of Martinique sporting incredible colors from violet to orange passing though an hypnotic bleu. In the air, Martinique offers a festival day and night. Humming birds, frigates, brown pelican, sugar bird, heron… Martinique is a unique destination for amateur or confirmed ornithologists. Water of Martinique are also perfect if you dive with bottles or with a snorkel. You will easily observe many tropical fishes as surgeon fishes, lion fishes, moray eel. You also will swim with the numerous turtles of the southern Caribbean coast of Martinique. Moreover, Martinique counts in its water no less than 20 cetacean species. You will for sure meet dolphins and even humpback whales, sperm whales or killer whales .

Flora



Martinique is also called the island of flowers and it is not an accident. In fact, anywhere you go in Martinique, you will find flowers everywhere. Each of your walks in Martinique will be an occasion to enjoy the beauty and perfume of flowers. Beside flowers, we also have marvelous trees in Martinique as tree ferns, traveler’s trees, coconut trees and the flamboyant that adorn the side of roads of Martinique offering a red/orange light while in flower during the months of may/June. If you love gardens and flower, you must visite the “jardin de Balata”, an unmissable visit during your stay in Villa Azura. This garden was built around a typical small house of Martinique in the middle of the rain forest. The garden was thought as a living painting where you will dive into the beauty of nature for a 2/3 hours visit.

Gastronomy



The Martinican food is perfumed, spicy, colorful and mixed. The influences are various as you will find in this cuisine notes of French cuisine, African cuisine, Indian cuisine or mid-eastern cuisine. You will find in your plate a whole range that makes the Creole culture that rich. Martinique uses all nature offers on land or in the sea. You will taste meat plates of seafood prepared in various ways, note forgetting the lobster you will savor the feshest way in restaurant just installed on the beach. Rum



Rum is for Martinique what the Eiffel Tower is for Paris. Martinique is the only country/island producing the only AOC rum worldwide (Controlled Origin Label which is a very demanding label for French food and beverages) which makes Martinican rum one of the best (or simply the best!) rum produced. Martinique counts a dozen of distilleries where you will taste and discover all the flavors of our rum. The AOC Rum of Martinique is strictly made of sugar cane juice (not residues as it is mostly done in other Caribbean islands) which make our rum so fie and particular. You will discover our white rums, the “Amber” rum and our old rums that are made old at least 3 years in casks to get the name of old, up to tens of years to create exceptional rums that will please the greatest amateurs of fine spirits. And What can be better than enjoying such a fine beverage along the Villa Azura’ swimming pool !

Sports



Fans of sports will enjoy their stay in Martinique which is the perfect outdoors destination all year long. We already talked of hiking or scuba diving but there is way more to do in Martinique! You can bicycle in the mountain road of the island, do kayak or stand-up paddle on our warm waters.
